I was born and educated in Wales and, after a career in scientific research, I have an emeritus position as Professor of Biology at Aberystwyth University. I now write about evolution, genetics, plant science and anything else that takes my fancy (more about this here<\/a><\/strong><\/span>).  I’ve also led a parallel life as a devout jazz musician (more here<\/a><\/strong><\/span>).<\/h4>

I’m a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and of the Linnean Society of London<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/h4>

I’m on the board of trustees of the New Phytologist Foundation<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, where I serve as honorary treasurer.<\/h4>

From 1966 I’ve lived in Aberystwyth<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, mid Wales.
